MISINFO ALERT: Video of Tinubu threatening citizens who label his statements as AI is doctored

A video showing President Bola Tinubu threatening Nigerian citizens who label his statements as AI-generated has gone viral on WhatsApp.

In the one-minute video, Tinubu assured that “full consequences” would result from the “disrespect.”

“Let it be known from today onwards, whenever I Bola Ahmed Tinubu release a press statement, I do not expect to be mocked or labelled as an AI,” he said.

“I am a living breathing man who has fought, served, and sacrificed for this nation. Any one who dares to comment AI under my statements will face the full consequences of their disrespect. We will not tolerate digital insolence disguised as humor.

“And to those aged 30 and below, understand this clearly; you will not address me as Tinubu, you will address me as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or Mr. President.

“This is not arrogance, it is order. Nigeria must return to a culture of respect and responsibility. Enough is enough.”

WhatsApp indicated that the video had been “forwarded many times.”

The clip was credited to a TikTok account named @uncle_tarrmie with 15.5k followers.

Checks through his account showed that the video was no longer on the page.

However, multiple videos of Tinubu making absurd announcements were found.

Some of them included “heartbreak allowance from the government”, “Presidency congratulates Davido and Chioma”, “President Tinubu joins Wizkid FC”.

Although the user noted that his videos are made with AI, some of them have been shared online to misinform the public.

There were also tons of AI-generated videos as part of a story series titled “The Dark Pastor” by the creator.

“My Videos are made with AI. No intentions to mislead the public,” the TikToker’s bio said, urging social media users to connect.
