The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has denied viral reports claiming that actress Iyabo Ojo was declared wanted for questioning.
A ‘wanted person’ bulletin had been shared across social media, alleging that the filmmaker was wanted by the office of the inspector-general of police (IGP) monitoring unit.
The poster, which featured the actress’ photograph and the inscription ‘special police wanted,’ claimed that a reward was being offered for information leading to her arrest.
Some social media users insinuated that Ojo was being summoned for interrogation in connection to the late singer Mohbad’s case or other family-related issues.
The report, which circulated widely on social media platforms earlier this week, was however refuted by the police in a notice issued on Thursday.
The NPF emphasised that the bulletin did not originate from any official police source, labelling the report as “false and misleading”.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to clarify that the recent Wanted Person Bulletin circulating about stating that the Nollywood Actress, Iyabo Ojo is wanted by the Office of The IGP Monitoring Unit is NOT an official communication from the Force,” the notice reads.
“The Nigeria Police Force urges members of the public to verify information through official channels and be cautious of misinformation.”
