The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has refuted the reports that Nike, the sportswear giant, has unveiled new jerseys for the Super Eagles ahead of next month’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Some reports had claimed that the NFF and Nike unveiled new kits for the Eagles’ participation at the AFCON billed to be held on the Ivory Coast.
The claims circulated on social media alongside a picture of the purported jersey designs.
However, in a statement on Friday, NFF said the reports are “not true”, adding that there is currently no plan to launch new Eagles kits for the competition.
“Rumours about a new jersey launch between NIKE and the senior Men’s National team circulating around social media has been brought to our notice,” the statement reads.
“We want to inform the general public that this claim is not true. At the moment, we have no jersey being launched for the Super Eagles for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to hold in Côte d’Ivoire next month.”
Nike last unveiled new jerseys for the Nigeria senior men’s national team in September 2022.
The 34th edition of AFCON is billed to kick off on January 13 in Ivory Coast.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are in Group A alongside the host, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
Earlier this month, NFF released a 40-player provisional squad for the tournament.
