A recent video making the rounds on social media has claimed that Ramon Abbas better known as Huspuppi has been released from prison.

“Hushpuppi’s been released from jail, let’s hope he has learnt from his mistakes,” reads the post by @praiseoghre.

The video which has gotten over 1.9m views, 2.4k retweets, 957 comments and 7.1k likes on X, formally known as twitter, at the time of writing this report.

In the video, Hushpuppi was being received at the airport by his friends, while holding a bag.

Apart from X, the video was also seen on Facebook, where it was said that Huspuppi was out of prison.

HUSHPUPPI

Huspuppi is a Nigerian internet celebrity, serving 11 years jail term in United Staes of American (USA), over an “extensive international online fraud”.

He was said to have committed crimes outside the United Arab Emirates (UAE), including money laundering, cyber fraud, hacking, impersonation, scamming individuals, banking fraud and identity theft worth Dh1.6 billion (an estimated N168 billion).

The internet celebrity was sentenced by Otis D. Wright II, a US district judge who also ordered him to pay $1,732,841 in restitution to two fraud victims, after he pleaded guilty to a one count charge of conspiracy to engage in money laundering, in April, 2021

On July 2,2020, Hushpuppi and Woodberry, his closest ally were extradited to USA.

He is currently serving his term at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Fort Dix, New Jersey facility.

VERIFICATION

A keyword search on YouTube, showed that the video was uploaded in 2018 by iLiteTV ,during Huspuppi’s birthday in Cyprus.

The video resurfaced on YouTube in 2020, and was shared severally in November, with the caption ” Hushpuppi arrives Nigeria airport after been released from the prison”.

TheCable also visited the official website of the of FCI, Fort Dix, New Jersey, and found his name on their register, with his current location at Fort Dix FCI.

According to the correctional facilty, the register shows the name of the location of inmates still in the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) custody.

TheCable understands that Huspuppi will complete his jail term In April,2029.

VERDICT

The viral video claiming the release of Hushpuppi is old, it was a video of him arriving at an airport for his birthday in Cyprus in 2018.

The instagram influencer is still in custody, where he is serving his 11 years jail term.
